Typhoon ‘Ambo’ has maintained its strength while continuing to move away from the country, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

At 10 a.m. Monday (June 4), the eye of Typhoon “Ambo” was located at 400 km East Northeast of Basco, Batanes, maintaining maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph and moving North Northeast at 15 kph.

‘Ambo’ is expected to be at 700 km East Northeast of Batanes by tomorrow morning. By Wednesday morning, it will be at 1,040 km Northeast of Basco.

The typhoon is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon that will bring rains over Southern Luzon and Visayas especially over the western section, which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

‘Ambo’ left two dead and seven persons missing. Siblings Princess, 2, and Shawn Mori Abrera, 4, drowned Sunday (June 3) morning at the Kiwit River in Busuanga, Palawan.

Meanwhile, Richard Atulan, 7, of slipped off and fell into the Cainta River. Rommel Largueza of Sta. Maria, Roblon went fishing alone last June 1 and has been missing since.

Fishermen from Catanduanes Aurello Anasco, Jerry Broncano, Romarico Bermejo, Carlito Dequiros, and Nelson Panti Jr. have remained missing.

Meanwhile, the Active Low Pressure Area (ALPA) was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 810 km East of Southern Mindanao.

The rest of Luzon and Western Visayas will have monsoon rains. The rest of Visayas and Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
