There was a time when the Philippines was second to none in the Southeast Asia in terms of military muscle. That period of military superiority was immediately after World War II until the early 70’s.
Today, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) finds itself dismally in the lowest echelon among neighboring Asian nations.
At the height of its glory days, the AFP had more than 50 jet-fighter interceptors – the F-5A/B and F-8 Crusaders, not to mention the 140 “Huey” helicopters, 35 attack helicopters, 30 trainer jets, 12 C-130 “Hercules” planes, and an array of other aircraft in the inventory of the Philippines Air Force (PAF).
