A grenade has exploded and a gunfight ensued in a daring robbery Thursday morning inside Robinsons Galleria in Ortigas, killing a bank security guard injuring six others.
According to reports, robbers threw two grenades towards a Security Bank cash delivery van that was set to deliver money to the Sanry moneychanger shop. The other grenade failed to explode.
CCTV videos showed the suspects fleeing. However, the video didn’t show the suspects’ distinct facial features. Police said the robbers fled with an undetermined amount of money.
The lone fatality as Rodrigo Villa, a Security Bank guard escort. Another security escort, Roderick Reloso, was also seriously injured. Also hurt were Security Bank tellers Vincent Mangatura and Lea del Mundo and Paul Adrian, Johansen Dionisio and Jeremy Rabe.
The victims were rushed to Medical City and Rizal Medical Center for treatment.
In the afternoon, the mall was still locked down and no one was allowed to get in. Those going out are heavily scrutinized. The perpetrators are still being located.
The current tension in the area has already caused heavy traffic in the Edsa-Ortigas area.
Later, PNP Chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome visited the crime scene.

Wondering how did they know the time & destination of the delivery?
The perps could have observed and patterned the regular routes and schedules of the delivery and collection. They could pose as janitors and the likes or befriend people who are working near the targeted shops. They can also keep tab of the sources or origin of the cash delivery.
Inside job perhaps? Though what’s more worrying is the alleged report that they didn’t even bother to announce the hold-up and just opened fire right away and did not hesitate to use grenades to cover otheir escape. Obviously, they didn’t care about causing any casualties.

normally, robbers does surveillanceon targets. they sometimes do this for months as they study the patterns, movements, and routes of armored vans as they make their deliveries
it’s awful and shame to our policeman who should protect us civilians…our country is tremendously facing security crisis and the government should act on it before it’s too late…we cannot entice investors around the world, this is an eye opener and challenge to our Department of Defense.
what saddens me is that the authorities are reactive and no pro-active on such situations. security will only be tightened once incidents such as this one has already happened. I believe security should not be complacent in this society
