The two brothers identified as prime suspects in the death of 20-year-old Cyrish Magalang, a Tourism and Hospitality Management cum laude graduate at the University Santo Tomas in España, Manila, will soon be facing criminal charges of attempted rape and robbery with homicide on Wednesday by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Cavite and the local police authorities before the prosecutor’s office in Bacoor City, Cavite, various reports said.
The suspects, Rolin Gacita, 27, and Roel Gacita, 24, were arrested Friday morning, November 2, at their residence in Nazareth Compound, Camella Springville, Barangay Molino 7, Bacoor City.
In several televised interviews, the Gacita brothers confessed to killing Magalang and to taking and selling Magalang’s mobile phone. The elder Gacita also confessed to being under the influence of shabu at the time of the crime.
According to gathered reports, the crime was said to have been perpetrated last Wednesday, October 31, when Magalang went onboard the tricycle driven by the younger Gacita. The elder Gacita, who is a vegetable vendor, later boarded at the back seat of the tricycle.
Reports said the motive of the suspects was just to rob the victim. But it was also discovered that the victim’s underwear was pulled down. The suspects, however, denied raping the victim. They said the victim resisted which prompted the elder Gacita to stab her 49 times with a screwdriver. Her head was also smashed by the elder Gacita using a hollow block. The body was found the next day in an abandoned nipa hut at Gawaran Height, Barangay Molino 7, Bacoor City.
The elder Gacita told reporters that he had an argument with his wife and was upset, which was the reason he committed the crime.
