Boston Bombing Update: One Suspect Dead, One Still At Large

The massive manhunt for the suspects in the Boston Marathon twin bombing has placed the city of Boston in a total lockdown, according to several reports online.

Following a chaotic pursuit of the suspects in Watertown, one of the suspects, identified as Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, has been killed during a shootout with the police early Friday morning (Boston time), an ABC News report said.

Live feeds on abcnews.go.com report that the other suspect, Tamerlan’s younger brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, is still on the loose and is currently being pursued by the police.

Anzor Tsarnaev, the suspects’ father was interviewed by ABC News. The older Tsarnaev was said to have appealed to his surviving son, Dzhokhar, to “surrender peacefully.”

However, according to a report on theguardian.co.uk, Anzor Tsarnaev, in another interview, this time with the Associated Press, was quoted as saying, “They were set up, they were set up! I saw it on television; they killed my older son Tamerlan.”

The Guardian also reported that the Tsarnaevs are of Chechen descent. The brothers were said to have lived in the United States for “at least seven years and have grown up in Kyrgyzstan.”

The ongoing standoff came on the heels of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) shooting in Cambridge where a security officer identified as Sean Collier, 26, was killed.
