Parts of Metro Manila were submerged in flood following heavy rain on Thursday afternoon, June 13.
The sudden downpour around 3 p.m. flooded areas around Metro Manila including the stretch of España Avenue and sections of Taft Avenue in Manila. In Quezon City, Balintawak Cloverleaf and intersections along Commonwealth Avenue were also flooded. Several areas in Makati, Valenzuela, Caloocan, and Malabon were reportedly flooded as well.
Because of the floods, many schools, including colleges and universities were forced to suspend classes.
The flooding caused heavy traffic flow throughout Metro Manila. Some areas became impassable to light vehicles. Because of this, many commuters, particularly students were left stranded or found it difficult to travel.
The Metro Manila Development Authority announced at 9:10 p.m. that all reported flooded areas are passable. Traffic is becoming moderate to light as of posting time.
It is expected that similar flooding and traffic situations will affect Metro Manila as the rainy season has begun. Heavier than usual traffic is expected following heavy rain.
It is recommended that everyone be aware of prevailing weather conditions and adjust activities according to weather forecasts. Also, everyone is advised to take measures for personal health and safety during the rainy season.
