Over 100 pieces of landmines were recovered by government troops in what they described as a “biggest landmine factory” by the New People’s Army in Agusan del Sur.
A belated report from the Armed Forces of the Philippines Eastern Mindanao Command said that 163 pieces of landmines were recovered Wednesday (Dec. 11) in Kauswagan village in Loreto town.
Village residents in the said area reported the location where the landmines were manufactured and kept by the NPA.
Data from the Eastmincom showed that 453 landmines exploded from 2010 to date. There were 128 people killed and 325 wounded, as well as dozens of properties destroyed in the region of Eastern Mindanao.
“This is the biggest NPA landmine factory discovered so far. Indeed, the timely recovery of NPA landmines by our troops saved lives of the public,” Eastmincom chief Lt. Gen. Rainier Cruz III said.
