The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Thursday that the power outages that some parts of Albay have been experiencing since May have started to affect the water supply in Legazpi City.
“Some electric-powered water pumping stations within Legazpi City are currently inoperational and presently disrupted following the intermittent supply of electricity,” the NDRRMC posted on its 8 a.m. update.
The situation prompted the local government units of Albay and Legazpi to mobilized Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) teams to provide potable water to priority areas in the city.
The power outages began on May 26 when Albay Power Electric Corp. (APEC) deliberately cut off power supply to Barangay Bitano Substation for routine maintenance work.
As a result, rotating brownouts were implemented to avoid further damage to the power distribution system while replacement works were in progress.
The NDRRMC reported that the PDRRMC has been coordinating with Albay Power Electric Corporation (APEC) to expedite resumption of power supply. The agency also said that it has provided relevant safety advisories to affected residents through tri-media and secured interconnection with other substations to energize portions of affected areas.
