The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) said alignment routes for the P135-billion Mass Transit Loop System are now being finalized.
DOTC Secretary Jun Abaya said the agency is looking at two options – either the system would pass through the 26th St. or the 32nd St. inside Bonifacio Global City (BGC).
Abaya added that the agency is currently negotiating with directors of the Manila Golf and Country Club so that the underground rail system could pass through McKinley instead of Kalayaan.
“We are talking to Manila Golf for approval. The Kalayaan route is now the ideal right of way due to the right turns,” Abaya said.
If the system passes through 26th St., the stations would be:
Market-Market
McKinley Parkway (BGC)
5th Ave. (BGC)
Ayala/EDSA
Ayala Triangle
Makati Post Office
PNR Buendia, Buendia/Taft Avenue
World Trade Center
Mall of Asia
EDSA/Taft Avenue
If it traverses 32nd St., the stations would be located in:
Market-Market
St. Luke’s Medical Center (BGC)
MRT-3 Buendia Station
Ayala/EDSA
Ayala Triangle
Makati Post Office
PNR Buendia
Buendia/Taft Avenue
World Trade Center
Mall of Asia
EDSA/Taft Avenue
The proposed 20-kilometer project involves the construction of a 16 kilometer-tunnel and 4-kilometer elevated railway, and 11 stations—5 are underground, 2 are elevated, and 4 are interchanges.
DOTC says the mass rail system would address traffic congestion in Makati, Pasay, and Taguig and improve inter-city linkage of business districts in Metro Manila.
