A 17-year-old student of the University of the Philippines in Los Baños (UPLB) was raped by a tricycle driver near the campus Wednesday night, authorities said.
According to the police, the victim, whose name remains withheld as requested by her family, came from a school event and rode a tricycle in Barangay Maahas, a village located just outside the campus.
She asked to be taken to their house in Barangay Mainit but the driver took her to a dimly lit potion of IPB Road in Barangay Putho-Tuntungin where she was raped.
After the incident, the driver left the victim in the same area, where a UPLB security guard later spotted her walking alone.
In 2011, another UPLB student, Given Grace Cebanico, was raped and killed in the same area.
Los Baños police and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Calabarzon are working with university officials to solve the case.
