MMDA Opens ‘Christmas Loops’ to Ease Traffic during Christmas Rush

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will open on Friday four “Christmas loops” to further ease traffic congestion during the Christmas rush.

MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said the loops will help ease vehicular flow near the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminals this holiday season as heavy traffic is expected in the area due to the construction of the NAIA Elevated Expressway.

The NAIA Expressway Phase 2 project involves a 7.75-kilometer, four-lane elevated expressway and a 2.22-kilometer feeder road that will link the airport to the Skyway and the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway. It is also designed to provide easier access to airport terminals 1, 2, and 3.

The loops, which will be open to traffic until January 3, will serve as alternative routes for airport-bound motorists.

According to the MMDA, the first loop, which is called the ‘maroon loop,’ will take motorists from the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) to the domestic airport through Dr. A. Santos Avenue (Sucat), Kabihasnan, and the Coastal Road or Dongalo Service Road.

The second loop, or the ‘violet loop,’ will take motorists from Manila to the domestic airport via Roxas Boulevard, Airport Road, and the Domestic Road.

The third loop, called the ‘green loop,’ will take motorists from Makati area to the domestic airport through the SLEX/Skyway, Doña Soledad Avenue, E. Rodriguez Avenue, Kaingin Road, Multinational Avenue, Ninoy Aquino Avenue, NAIA Road, and the Domestic Road.

The fourth loop, or the ‘gold loop,’ will take motorists from Makati area to the domestic airport through the SLEX/Skyway through Dona Soledad Avenue, E. Rodriguez Avenue, Kaingin Road, Multinational Avenue, Dr. A. Santos Avenue (Sucat Road), and Ninoy Aquino Avenue.
