Typhoon “Ruby” is expected to hit Central Philippines over the weekend and will bring rains to Metro Manila starting Sunday, state weather agency PAGASA said.
“The outer bands of Ruby will bring rains in Metro Manila starting Sunday morning onwards,” PAGASA weather forecaster Chris Perez told the press Friday.
Perez said areas within the path of Ruby in the Visayas will experience heavy to intense rains, while Metro Manila, which is not in typhoon Ruby’s direct path, will still experience rains due to the typhoon’s 700-kilometer diameter expanse.
Ruby is expected to make landfall over the area between Eastern and Northern Samar on Saturday evening.
It is expected to bring strong winds, intense rains, and storm surge over affected areas.
According to the weather bureau’s latest bulletin, as of 10 a.m. today, the eye of Ruby was located at 435 km east of Borongan, Eastern Samar. It is forecast to move 13 kph west-northwest .
Ruby packs maximum sustained winds of 215 kph near the center and gusts of up to 250 kph.
PAGASA also placed 34 areas under storm signals.
Signal No. 2 is up in Sorsogon, Ticao Island, and Masbate in Luzon; and in Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Northern Cebu including Cebu City, Bantayan Island, and Camotes Island in the Visayas.
Signal No. 1 is raised in Catanduanes, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Burias Island, and Romblon in Luzon. It is likewise hoisted in Capiz, Iloilo, Antique, Aklan, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, the rest of Cebu, Siquijor, and Bohol in the Visayas; and in Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Island, Siargao Island, Misamis Oriental, Agusan del Sur and Camiguin Island in Mindanao.
