Two construction workers died while 11 others were injured after a portion of a condominium building being constructed at the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig City collapsed Wednesday.
The fatalities were identified as Ruben Racraquiam and Renato Dela Cruz. Those who sustained injuries were Sandy Vargas, Jaymar Carberta, Regan Labmutin, Larry Magguray, Wendil Behim, Aldrin Gahuman, Roberto Lorca, Darwin Avara, Bernard Tugade, Jonathan Agoso and Delinger Abara.
Taguig Fire Marshal Juanito Maslang said Dela Cruz was working on the upper ground floor of The Suites residential towers when it collapsed. Racraquiam and Dela Cruz were crushed by debris. Dela Cruz died on arrival at St. Luke’s Medical Center Global City while Racraquiam’s body was retrieved from the rubble at around 1:35 p.m., a report on the Philippine Star said.
Fort Bonifacio Development Corp. (FBDC), the project developer of The Suites residential towers, said formworks gave way while concrete was being poured from one of the floors.
FBDC said it has been coordinating with Makati Development Corporation (MDC), the principal contractor, and Fastem to attend to the needs of the injured and the families of the deceased, the report added.
“We are one in grief and prayers with the families of the fatalities. We will make sure that their families receive the necessary assistance. As to the injured, every help for them to fully recover will be extended. At the same time, we are fully cooperating with authorities who are investigating the accident,” Manny Blas, FBDC Head of Commercial Operations said.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Fire Protection said search and rescue operations at the construction site were terminated at around 1:45 p.m. as workers of the said mixed-use project are now all accounted for.
