All night flights to and from Clark International Airport have been cancelled due to a lightning strike Monday night.
Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) President and Chief Executive Officer Emigdio Tanjuatco III said the airport’s navigational equipment was hit by lightning during a storm.
As a result, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) issued a notice to airmen (NOTAM) closing flight operations Monday evening.
The NOTAM, which remains in effect until Friday, May 8, limits flight operations between 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., affecting scheduled night flights.
Several night flights at the Clark airport have been diverted to Ninoy Aquino International Airport since Tuesday, including Tiger Air and SeaAir flights from Singapore.
Meanwhile, Cebu Pacific and Asiana Airlines flights from Seoul, South Korea have been rescheduled and landed at Clark Wednesday morning.
Day flights have resumed at the airport but repairs are ongoing and CIAC officials expect normal flight operations to resume at the end of CAAP’s issued advisory.
