Wanted Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) sub-leader Mahmur Jupuri was killed by government troops in a military operation in Sulu, a military official said Wednesday.
According to Colonel Alan Arrojado, Joint Task Group Sulu commander, Mahmur was neutralized in Brgy. Poblacion in Indanan town around 4:30 in the afternoon.
Mahmur has outstanding warrants of arrest issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 3 in Jolo for kidnapping, serious illegal detention and murder, Arrojado added.
“Mahmur was also involved in the kidnapping of a Malaysian couple last May 14, 2015 in Sandakan, Malaysia,” Arrojado said.
No casualties were reported on the government side but Arrojado said government troops in the area were alerted for possible retaliation by the ASG.
Recovered at the encounter site were one caliber .45 pistol, one magazine, and ammunition.
Jupuri’s body has been claimed by his family from the military hospital in Jolo Wednesday night.
