A high-ranking leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) was arrested by combined elements of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP) and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-National Capital Region (CIDG-NCR) Monday in Marikina City.
Rene Nuyda Jr., also known as John Dela Cruz, Ka Red, and Sung, and believed to be the regional secretary of the Bicol Regional Party Committee, was nabbed by a joint team of police and military personnel at around 12:30 a.m. at No. 56 Paradise Street, Barangay Malanday.
He was arrested by virtue of an arrest warrant for double frustrated murder issued by Judge Rolando De Lemios Bobis of Labo, Camarines Norte Regional Trial Court Branch 64.
Nuyda was implicated in the ambush of an Army unit on July 14, 2008 in Labo, Camarines Norte, which wounded two soldiers, PFCs Michael Luzon and Roel Barnigo.
Also nabbed was a certain Pedro Canaleta Jr. who was named in the same warrant.
A P200,000.00 bail has been set for Nuyda and Canaleta’s temporary release.
Seized from the two were a .45-caliber pistol, a .45-caliber magazine, seven pieces of ammunition for .45-caliber pistol, and two fragmentation grenades.
The arresting team also recovered 13 laptops computers, 21 cellular phones, five USB broadband sticks, six USB flash drives, 32 SIM cards, five tablets, 16 memory cards, two PDAs, and cash worth P79,000.00.
Charges for Violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) and Republic Act 9516 (Law on Explosives) are being readied against the two.
