A recent OCTA Research survey reveals overwhelming support for banning Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGO), with 83% of Filipinos in favor. Conducted from June 26 to July 1, the survey indicates broad consensus across various regions, with the highest support in Balance Luzon (90%). Socio-economic backing was also notable, particularly among class D respondents (86%).
In response to the survey, Senator Grace Poe emphasized the need for a permanent law to enforce the law beyond President Marcos’ term. Marcos’s critique of the current approach notes that similar bans, such as those on e-sabong, have proven ineffective without robust legal backing.
The Bureau of Immigration is preparing for the departure of foreign POGO workers, with an order for visa cancellations and a requirement to leave the country within 59 days. The Department of Labor and Employment is urged to assist the 40,000 Filipino workers affected by the ban.
