Iloilo City Strengthens Security Amid Rising Street Crimes

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has declared a crackdown on increasing car thefts, holdups, and street crimes, implementing a multi-pronged security strategy. Key measures include intensified police patrols, particularly along the 9-kilometer Esplanade park, and the deployment of 50 new service vehicles to enhance police mobility and response times.

The city is also expanding surveillance by installing additional CCTV cameras in strategic locations. Treñas urged banks to integrate their external CCTV feeds, especially those monitoring ATMs, with the Iloilo City Action and Resilience Center to improve security monitoring.

Despite Iloilo City’s reputation as one of Asia’s safest cities, Treñas warned against complacency, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to combat criminal syndicates. “We cannot afford to be complacent. Criminals can strike anytime, anywhere,” he stated, reinforcing the city’s commitment to public safety.
