In a move that underscores the Philippines’ dedication to strengthening international partnerships and ensuring visitor security, Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo assured Japan that the safety of its nationals remains a top priority of the Philippine government.
During a bilateral meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya in Tokyo on May 28, both officials reaffirmed their nations’ robust strategic partnership. The talks emphasized the importance of safe and secure travel conditions as a foundation for deepening economic cooperation and tourism.
Secretary Manalo committed that the safety of Japanese nationals—whether traveling for business or tourism—is being addressed “at the highest level,” highlighting ongoing efforts to create a secure environment across key destinations. The assurance was warmly received by Japan, which views safety as essential for promoting investment and people-to-people exchanges.
Reflecting growing confidence in Philippine security measures, Japan recently lowered its travel risk advisory for several provinces in Mindanao, including the Davao Region. This development points to improving conditions and the success of the government’s commitment to safety and stability.
The dialogue marks a significant step forward in promoting the Philippines as a trusted destination for international travelers and investors alike, reinforcing mutual respect and cooperation between the two nations.
