Rappler.com reports: “Another quiz application—the myPersonality quiz app——may have exposed the personal data of over 3 million Facebook users, this time thanks to lax security measures in the dataset sharing system set up by researchers. The data was meant to be restricted; users had to register as a collaborator to the project; however, a username-password combination was floating around the internet, providing access to the dataset if one searched hard enough. Data acquired from the app was distributed through a website with insufficient security provisions. The quiz, made by researchers from the University of Cambridge, was completed by about 6 million users, with about half opting to share their Facebook data with the researchers.” We ask our readers to remain vigilant against third-party Facebook apps.
