The dead from the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in the Visayas has risen to 34, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Friday (February 10).

In its 8 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said 71 persons remain missing and 54 individuals were injured. The estimated total cost of damage incurred by both passable and impassable roads and bridges is now at PhP265.7 million

Three bridges (La Libertad, Jimalalud and Guihulngan) in Negros Oriental remain impassable. One road along Dumaguete North Road remains inaccessible due to cracks and rockfalls.

Several roads, bridges and other infrastructure were damaged in Cadiz, Cebu, Siquijor, Iloilo and Negros Oriental.  A total of 2,977 houses were damaged.

The number of population affected is at 93,397 persons or 21,076 families. A total of 32,860 persons or 6,572 families has been moved to evacuation centers.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has recorded a total of 1,413 aftershocks since last Monday. The earthquake is said to have been caused by a new fault line.
