An earthquake measuring magnitude-5.9 hit Sarangani province at around 8:30 a.m. of 05 August 2017, reports the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.In a bulletin, PHIVOLCS said that the quake’s epicenter was traced eight kilometers west of Malapatan, Sarangani, with a depth of 74 km. The quake is tectonic in origin.
The quake’s reported intensities were:
- Intensity V – Malapatan and Alabel, Sarangani; General Santos City
- Intensity IV – Digos City; Kiamba, Sarangani
- Intensity III – Davao City and Lebak, Sultan Kudarat
- Intensity I – Zamboanga City
PHIVOLCS reports that the population should be prepared for aftershocks, but no damage is expected to be assessed from the quake.
