The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said in its bulletin that at around 8:47 p.m. yesterday, a strong earthquake, with a preliminary magnitude of 7.7 and depth of 10km, shook Guiuan, Eastern Samar. Other nearby areas affected have recorded intensities ranging from magnitude 2 to 6.

PHIVOLCS earlier issued a Tsunami Alert Level #3 in coastal areas in Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Surigao del Sur, and Surigao del Norte, as well as advised people to immediately evacuate to higher grounds.

But the said agency has cancelled all tsunami alerts in its latest bulletin issued at 12:00 a.m. today.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that a landslide incident in Barangay Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City has claimed the life of 44-year-old Emelita Ubalde and injured her 5-year-old grandson Adrian Ubalde.

Five houses were said to have been partially damaged in Barangay Tablon, Cagayan de Oro City due to flashflood. The residents have already been evacuated, according to the NDRRMC report.

Two bridges were also said to be partially damaged: Buyayawan Bridge in Mercedes, Eastern Samar and Barangay Casuroy Bridge in San Julian, Eastern Samar.
