Ten people, including soldiers and firefighters, were reported injured after a fire broke out and explosion ensued at the Philippine Army Support Headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City Wednesday morning, various reports said.
In an advisory released by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), it said the fire started to raze the armory and ordnance division of the Army Support Command (Ascom) at 10:42 a.m. The fire reached the third alarm but MMDA reported that the blaze was already under control at 11:05 a.m.
In a DZMM radio report, correspondent Dennis Datu said that shortly after he reported about the fire, an explosion followed, causing a rain of bullets and debris that had people scrambling to safety.
In the same report, Philippine Army spokesman Lt. Col. Noel Detoyato confirmed that two of his men were hurt in the explosion.
Detoyato said he was about 20 meters away from the fire when the last explosion occurred. He warned there is still a possibility of another explosion as there is still smoke coming from the area.
