Joint police and military operatives on Sunday arrested a suspected bomb expert of the Moro National Liberation Front allegedly involved in a 2009 landmine attack that killed two US Army Special Forces soldiers and a Filipino Marine.
“Moro National Liberation Front bomb expert Mihaji Hamjuda Mahang was arrested by joint police and military elements,” Director Benjamin Magalong of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group told GMA News.
Mahang is expected to be brought to Zamboanga City, then to Cebu “for his eventual commitment to court,” Magalong added.
Meanwhile, a report from The Guardian said that Mahang did not resist arrest when joint police and military elements served a warrant for his arrest in the town of Indanan, Sulu Sunday morning.
Mihaji Bairullah, who uses his rebel name “Mahang,” was among militants who placed a powerful landmine that hit and caused a passing Humvee to flip over, killing two US soldiers and a Filipino marine on 29 September 2009, police Senior Superintendent Abraham Orbita said in The Guardian report.
