MANILA — Militant labor groups have announced plans to hold a Philippine version of the “Occupy Wall Street” movement at Mendiola Bridge near Malacañang on December 6.
Kilusang Mayo Uno said the camp-out will voice calls for radical social change amid intensifying hunger and poverty in the country. Dubbed “Kampuhan Kontra Kaltas, Krisis at Kahirapan,” the protest aims to bring together various sectors fed up with the economic situation and government’s policies.
The KMU said this is the Filipino people’s response to the “Occupy” protests in the U.S. against extreme inequality, corporate greed and worsening poverty.
