Assassins shot and killed a nephew and bodyguard of slain Talisay Vice Mayor Florencio Manimtim Jr in barangay Tumaway in Talisay, Batangas Tuesday morning (January 17), reports said.
Manimtim’s nephew Danny Omania and bodyguard Joel Caringal were onboard a car when two armed men fired at them along the national highway in that town.
Local police pursued the gunmen, who were later killed in a shootout in Barangay Pagaspas in Tanauan City. Recovered from the gunmen were a .357 Magnum, an AK-47 and a pistol of unknown caliber tucked in the waist of one of them.
Manimtim was shot last December 15 near the SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.
The fifty-five-year-old Manimtim had just gotten off his black Toyota Grandia to go to the mall when the shooting occurred. He sustained 3 gunshot wounds, one on his side and two on his back.
Manimtim eventually succumbed to his wounds four days after. Along with two companions, the gunman immediately rode a motorcycle without a plate.
His bodyguard and police escorts rushed Manimtim to nearby San Juan de Dios hospital where he died four days after. An attempt to assassinate Manimtim also happened in August 2010.
