Abu Sayyaf Frees Abducted Teacher

The Abu Sayyaf Group on Thursday freed a teacher they abducted in Zamboanga Sibugay last March, a military report said.

Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Joint Task Group Sulu (AFP-JTGS) commander Col. Allan Arrojado said the victim, Reynadeth Bagonoc-Silvano, 31, was released at 7:30 a.m. in downtown Jolo.

Arrojado said Silvano was taken by a concerned citizen to the AFP-JTGS headquarters for debriefing immediately after her release.

She was also brought to the hospital for medical checkup .

However, Silvano’s brother, Russel Bagonoc, 22, remains in Abu Sayaff custody,

The siblings were on their way to Tuburan Elementry School when they were abducted by the bandits in the morning of March 5.

Arrojado said the Abu Sayyaf was pressured to free the victim “because of continued law enforcement operations in Indanan, Parang and Sulu areas.”
