Panay News reports, “The onslaught of tropical storm ‘Basyang’ on six areas in Negros Occidental has left total crop loss reaching some P8.417 million, according to [a recently released report by] the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA). […] The worst typhoon-hit area was Bago City—dubbed as the rice bowl of Negros Occidental—with crop loss pegged at P4.254 million. The loss affected 338 farmers of 411.1-hectare rice fields in 19 villages in Bago City. San Carlos City followed with rice crop loss worth P1.89 million, affecting 175 farmers in five villages. High-value commercial crops worth P401,250 were also lost in the same area. La Carlota City came in third with rice crop loss worth P859,432, followed by Moises Padilla with P779,935, Cadiz City with P174,032, and E.B. Magalona with P65,925.” Read more.
