Classes in the Loyola Campus of Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City have been canceled earlier today, February 12, because of a bomb threat.

At around 9:00 a.m., several employees received text messages claiming that there is a bomb in the campus.

The threat prompted the campus management to suspend classes and office work in the whole Loyola Heights campus by 12:00 noon. Students and employees were asked to go home. Meanwhile, dormers were also evacuated from their dormitories.

Police personnel from the Quezon City Police District responded and began a campus-wide sweep. No bomb has been found.

As of 5:00 p.m., Fr. Jose Ramon Villarin SJ, President of ADMU said in a statement that “the campus has been cleared already by PNP bomb squads”. The campus has also been opened to students and employees wishing to retrieve personal belongings.

Villarin also said that classes will resume tomorrow and that tighter security measures are expected.

Villarin also said that “We would like to thank the entire University community for their cooperation during the evacuation process. And we thank the QC and NCR police, the NBI, and our University staff for their timely response to this threat.”
