It’s a story we hear often – provincial boy who works in the fields, life is tough for him but he dreams of doing better, he sets off to find his fortune in Manila and finds work as a security guard.
Fast forward to the future. He’s still a security guard, giving you a salute at the door post.
But in this particular story, the boy who ran away from home to become a security guard, didn’t just become a security guard. Thirty years later, also became a doctor and a dean at a university.
Dr. Nelson Silva, former security guard, Philippine Navy reservist, and father of two, also finished a doctoral degree in business administration. He never gets tired of telling his students about how he built himself up from nothing.
