Enraged Security Guard Shot Himself Dead after Shooting Spree

An enraged security guard being investigated for theft went on a shooting rampage, killing one of his coworkers and wounding two others before shooting himself dead past noon Wednesday in Sta. Cruz, Manila.

According to reports from the Manila Police District’s (MPD) homicide division, Fernando Cano started shooting at his coworkers in Chain Glass Enterprises Inc. at around 12:30 p.m., minutes after investigators from MPD’s theft and robbery section left the company.

Cano and his coworkers are being investigated for theft after the company’s owner reported a robbery incident on Nov. 4, after some P1 million pesos worth of cash and checks were discovered missing from the establishment.

Reports said Cano started to go berserk after his fellow employees, marketing manager Ricky Mesina, Mark Salas, and Melanie Alejandro, began teasing him that we would go to jail.

The victims were rushed to Chinese General Hospital where Mesina was pronounced dead.

Investigators said that while Cano was on a rampage, he shouted that he’s innocent at every bullet he fired. He uttered the words one last time before he shot himself in the head using his .38 caliber service firearm.

His body was found near the door of a second-floor restroom.

Cano, a resident of Bagong Barrio, Caloocan City, worked for United Security and Watchman Agency USWA).

Roger Salvilla, USWA’s operation officer, said Cano had been assigned in the company for over 15 years and had no derogatory records.
