The old Internal Affairs Service (IAS) building inside Camp Crame in Quezon City was gutted by an hour-long fire Sunday night, leaving one wounded.

The fire started around 7 p.m. and reached the third alarm minutes before it was declared under control past 8 p.m., the Quezon City Fire Department said.

Fire officials said it took at least 40 fire trucks to completely put off the fire half an hour later.

Arson investigators said the extent of damage is around P500,000.

Wounded in the incident was Julius Nicolas, an errand boy of the PNP-IAS. Fire officials said Nicolas got hurt while trying to escape the blaze by breaking the glass windows of the building.

He was given immediate medical attention by fire volunteers and safety officials from the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.

Meanwhile, Senior Supt. Bartolome Tobias, spokesperson of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said that while the building was totally damaged, no important documents were destroyed by the fire as the IAS has moved offices to another building inside the camp.

IAS investigates cases involving policemen and recommends filing of administrative cases.
