Five Casualties, Three Suspects in Cubao Blast

QUEZON CITY, Philippines—A grenade blast in Cubao, Quezon City near Everest Lumber has left five injured victims and three suspects under police custody, not to mention the lone witness to the said explosion. Apparently, the grenade placed on the sidewalk, exploded around 9:00 p.m. yesterday in front of an apartelle in Aurora Boulevard along EDSA Southbound, various sources said.

A bus was passing by when the grenade went off, causing a portion of the glass window to shatter into pieces which, in turn, hurt three of the passengers namely Catherine Esquivel, Manuel Melanio, and Niño Espina.

Two bystanders identified by reports as Felicidad Orencio and Rommel Siporios also sustained injuries from the blast and are still under observation in the hospital.

Initial police investigation dismissed the terrorism angle and focused on the angle of retaliation instead. According to the Quezon City Police Station 10, they have in custody four of the possible suspects in the blast which include roomboy William Balasbas, construction workers Romnick Incha and Romeo Modular, and a witness alias Anwari. They were said to be involved in a brawl earlier, so police authorities are looking into the matter if this has something to do with the blast.
