Grenade Blast Injures 11 in Sultan Kudarat

A grenade explosion rocked Sultan Kudarat’s capitol grounds Saturday night injuring at least 15 people, the military reported.

The blast took place around 8:20 p.m. along the national highway, just a few meters from the provincial gymnasium where the Executive Night festivity attended by hundreds of residents was being celebrated.

The explosion happened on the eve of the Kalimudan Festival which culminated Sunday, the 42nd anniversary of the province.

Of the 11 confirmed casualties, ten have been identified as Abix Sandigan, 33; Almashir Ibrahim, 22; Sahid Salendab, 27; Marissa Villanueva, 30; Anne Janet Latip, 21; Lily Beth Ferolino, 45; Linda Baltazar, 49; Regina Dela Rosa, 14; Darius dela Rosa, 6; and Jasper Lindah, 11.

The victims were taken to the nearby Sultan Kudarat Provincial Hospital for immediate treatment.

Investigators are still trying to establish the identities of the culprits and the motive behind the attack.
