Grenade Blast Injures 3 in North Cotabato

A fragmentation grenade exploded in front of a sari-sari store Thursday evening in the town of Aleosan in North Cotabato, hurting three people, police said.

Senior Inspector Bernard Tayong, spokesperson of the North Cotabato Police Provincial Office said unidentified men tossed the grenade in front of the store of a certain Ramil Cordero in Barangay Tomado shortly before 9 p.m.

The victims, identified as Leo Calibayan, 34; Celia Calambro, 16; and Nenita Calamabro, 41, are all residents of Sitio Balisawan in Barangay Tomado.

The three sustained shrapnel wounds and were immediately given medical attention at Aleosan District Hospital. They are now out of danger, Tayong said.

Several shrapnels were recovered from the blast site.

Authorities are still trying to establish the identity of the suspects who threw the grenade and the motive for the attack.
