Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) has announced the recall of 1,760 units of Honda Fit, City, Civic, and Accord models that were sold in the Philippines between 2002 and 2003, due to faulty front passenger airbags.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, HCPI identified the number of recalled units per model. These were 867 units of City (2003 model); 230 units of Civic (2003); 662 of Accord (2003); and one Honda Fit (2002).
The recall was part of a bigger global recall of some 2.1 million vehicles by parent firm Honda Motor Co. Ltd.
Concerned owners will be notified through letter-notices to be sent by HCPI, and through phone by Honda dealers.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience we have caused to our customers and other people involved in this matter. Rest assured that we are conducting different measures to prevent the recurrence of this problem. Our customers’ safety is always Honda’s top priority. Please bear with us as we conduct this safety campaign,” said HCPI president and general manager Toshio Kuwahara in a statement.
Affected customers may take their vehicles to an authorized dealer where the defective inflator will be replaced free of charge. Meanwhile, original owners who have sold affected units are requested to inform the dealership immediately so their buyers can be informed about the recall campaign.
Repair service of affected vehicles will start on July 31.
