Napoles Gets Life Sentence for Illegal Detention

Alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles was found guilty of serious illegal detention and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Judge Elmo Alameda of Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 150 sentenced Napoles to life imprisonment and ordered her to pay P100,000 for the serious illegal detention case filed by her cousin and pork barrel scam whistleblower Benhur Luy.

Luy accused Napoles and her brother, Reynald Jojo Lim, of detaining him after the former discovered that he secured a P5.5-million loan under her name without her consent.

During the course of the investigation, Luy exposed Napoles’ involvement in the multimillion Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) scam.

Napoles and several lawmakers are still facing graft and plunder cases before the Sandiganbayan.
