NBI Files Murder Raps Against Two ASG Members

The National Bureau of Investigation on Friday filed multiple murder and frustrated murder charges against two alleged members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) before the Department of Justice (DOJ) in connection with the 2002 bombing of Fitmart Mall in General Santos City.

Charged before the DOJ were Abu Sayyaf members Khair Mundos and Borhan Mundos, who are currently in police custody at Camp Crame. Also charged were two Saudi Arabian nationals who are still at large.

The suspects were charged based on the testimony of a former Abu Sayyaf member who turned into a government witness.

According to the witness, Khair facilitated the financing of the bombing operation through the aid of the two Saudi nationals, while Borhan planned the bombing operation.

Khair was arrested by the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) on June 11, 2014 at Barangay San Dionisio, Parañaque City while Borhan was arrested on November 20, 2014 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The GenSan mall bombing on April 22, 2002 killed 14 people and injured several others.
