A member of the New People’s Army was killed while an Army soldier was wounded in an encounter in Magallanes, Sorsogon on Thursday, the Armed Forces of the Philippines Southern Luzon Command said yesterday.

Col. Cesar Idio, head of the Army’s 903rd Infantry Brigade said the soldiers were on a combat patrol operation in Barangay Tagas when the encounter transpired.

Idio said the identity of the rebel has not been confirmed while the wounded trooper was brought to the Sorsogon Doctor’s Hospital for treatment.

Recovered from the encounter site were two M16 Armalite rifles, an improvised explosive device, and five backpacks.
