LUZON SIGNIFICANT INCIDENTS:
(Army troops discover arms cache in Nueva Ecija) On 05 December 2018 at around 5:15 in the afternoon, troopers from the 84th Infantry Battalion (84IB), 703rd Infantry Brigade of the 7th Infantry Division (7ID) discovered an arms cache at Barangay Minuli, Municipality of Carrangla, Nueva Ecija. The act was based on information provided by civilians residing in the vicinity. Elements of the 84IB led by LTC GEORGE M BERGONIA, Commander of 84IB successfully located the arms cache. The following were recovered from the arms cache: 7 M16 rifles, 1 Icom radio, 4 short M16 magazines, 1 M14 magazines, 20 rounds M14 ammunition, 100 rounds of M16 ammunition, 3 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 5 blasting caps, 1 detonating cord, 1 binocular, 13 assorted brands of cellular phones, 4 power banks, 5 chargers, 3 extension chargers, 2 batteries, 11 sim cards and 11 memory adaptors. All recovered materials have been turned over to the custody of the Philippine National Police.
(NPA rebels surrender to military with their firearms in Nueva Ecija) On 08 December 2018 at around 6:00 o’clock in the morning, three former rebels surrendered to the 84th Infantry Battalion (84IB) and 91st Infantry Battalion (91IB). Two lie-low members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) surrendered to 84IB in San Jose City, Nueva Ecija and one former rebel yielded to 91IB in Bongabon, Nueva Ecija. The two former rebels voluntarily surrendered to Lieutenant Colonel George M Bergonia, Commanding Officer of 84IB and brought with them one Colt M653 rifle, one Springfield cal .30 rifle, one magazine and 20 rounds 5.56mm live ammunitions. The surrenderees were residents of Carranglan, Nueva Ecija. On the other hand, one surrenderee have also brought one cal 7.6mm M14 rifle, one magazine and 380 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunitions when he sought help from the Community Support Program (CSP) Team of 91IB under Lieutenant Colonel Jose Mari F Torrenueva, Commanding Officer. The recent surrenderees will be provided with security and protection. They will also be provided with assistance while processing their benefits from the government. It is significant to note that 14 out of 29 surrenderees in 7ID have already received financial aid from the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP). The cash assistance is one of the many entitlements that a surrenderee will receive upon yielding to the government. The former rebels who have received the immediate cash aids are from Carranglan, Nueva Ecija and Aurora.
(NPA assassination attack in Isabela) On 12 December 2018 on 4:10 in the afternoon, suspected NPA gunmen shot dead a police sergeant in Isabela Province. Senior Police Officer 4 Ronald Galap, a resident of Barangay Magsaysay, Municipality of Cordon, Isabela assigned at the Lubuagan Municipal Police Station in Kalinga Province was assassinated by suspected NPA hitmen in Brgy. Tanggal in the Municipality of Cordon, Isabela.
(Encounter in Lucban, Quezon) On 12 December 2018 at around 5:55 a.m., a suspected NPA terrorist was killed while a rookie policeman was almost hit by a bullet in the head when a band of suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels and a team of patrolling policemen figured in an early firefight at Brgy. Kalangay, Municipality of Lucban, Quezon. The slain rebel armed with a rifle is yet to be identified by probers. Elements of the 1st Quezon Provincial Mobile Force Company (QPMFC) were conducting preventive combat operation when they encountered the fully-armed rebels numbering around 15. At around 3:30 a.m., an information from a concerned citizen was received by Intelligence operatives of 1st QPMFC regarding the presence of an armed group at Brgy. Nalunao asking for food from the residents. Upon learning of the information, police immediately dispatch of police teams led by SPO4 Ramon Pagulayan to conduct preventive combat patrol. After almost two hours, the policemen were suddenly fired upon by the rebels, hitting PO1 Erwin Lagundino on his Kevlar helmet but he was unhurt. At that point, he said the policemen quickly opened fire, killing one of the rebels on the spot. Minutes later, the rebels finally retreated toward different directions, bringing with them a wounded comrade. Police recovered a cal. 30 Carbine rifle, a bandolier of ammunition and sacks containing packed rice and canned goods.
(NOLCOM troopers raid NPA encampment venue for CPP anniversary) On 18 December 2018 at around 5:20 in the afternoon, 91st Infantry Battalion (91IB) from the 703rd Infantry Brigade of the 7th Infantry Division (7ID) discovered an enemy encampment and food cache at Bongabon, Nueva Ecija. While conducting their Focused Military Operations (FMO) based on the information provided by the community, Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) troopers recovered six blue containers (30L), wherein four of which were filled of rice and one gallon (6L capacity) that was fully-filled of salt which were later discovered as means to be used for the celebration of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) anniversary in the area.
(84IB Recovers Firearms, War Materiel in Nueva Ecija) On 22 December 2018 at around 4:10 in the afternoon, the 84th Infantry Battalion recovered high powered firearms and war materiel in Sitio Neneng, Barangay Fatima, Municipality of Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija. The 84th IB troopers acted on the reports of the civilians residing in the area. Information revealed that the firearms and war materiel were hastily hidden by withdrawing CPP-NPA Terrorists (CNTs) during their encounter with the 7th Infantry Division Units last November 8, 2018 at Sitio Tulip, West Poblacion, Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija. Recovered items from the said area are the following: one M653 rifle, one M14 rifle, one anti-personnel explosive device, one magazine for M16 and three rounds of 5.56mm ammunition.
(54th IB troops seized another jungle NPA hideout and a cache in Ifugao) On 23 December 2018 at around 7:00 o’clock in the morning, troops of 54th Infantry (Magilas) Battalion (54IB) discovers another newly abandoned Communists NPA Terrorists (CNTs) jungle hide-out that can accommodate more or less 20 persons at Brgy. Binablayan, Municipality of Tinoc, Ifugao Province. The government troops were able to recover one (1) generator set, sixty (60) assorted canned goods, ten (10) kilograms of rice, toiletries and an NPA flag. The successive identification of all NPA hideouts, rendezvous areas, supply caches are made possible through the support of all Regular NPA and MB surrenderees. According to them (Former Rebels) they will also closely help in the identification of more NPA contacts, activities and usual routes to totally stop NPA activities and presence in the areas frequented by the NPAs.
(NPA harass CAA patrol base in Kalinga Apayao) On 23 December 2018 at around 6:00 o’clock in the morning, Ag-agama CAFGU Active Auxiliary Patrol Base stationed in Brgy. Western Uma, Municipality of Lubuagan, Kalinga Apayao, were attacked by more or less thirty (30) Communist New People’s Army Terrorists (CNTs). The incident resulted to one (1) casualty from the CAA Patrol Base and one (1) killed from the NPA side. The 503rd Infantry Brigade are on heightened alert and are currently conducting combat and pursuit operations against the fleeing NPA.
(Encounter in Rodriguez, Rizal) On 25 December 2018, one Army Cafgu Active Auxiliary was wounded when a 9-man squad of government forces under 80th Infantry Battalion conducting patrol encountered around 20 NPAs at the hinterlands of Rodriquez, Rizal. The troops were conducting security patrol when civilians informed them about the presence of the NPAs who were purportedly planning to attack the Macaingalan Patrol Base in Brgy. Puray, Municipality of Rodriguez, Rizal. According to a local source, the CAA was slightly wounded on the leg after the 5-minute firefight and is now on stable condition. Source added that there was undetermined number of casualties on the NPA side due to the heavy blood stains and their positions. The enemies brought along their wounded comrades when they scampered away. The terrorist were believed to be members of the NPA Sub- Regional Party of Sub- Regional Military area 4C under Jonathan Mopon (alias Boyong).
VISAYAS SIGNIFICANT INCIDENTS:
(Encounter in Brgy. Canauilihan, Municipality of Janiuay, Iloilo) On 09 December 2018 at around 6:00 o’clock in the morning, troops from the Philippine Army’s 61st Infantry Battalion encountered more than 20 suspected NPA members of the Central Front Committee’s SPP Baloy at Barangay Canauilihan, Municipality of Janiuay, Iloilo. A river separates Canauilihan from the nearby village of Trangka, Maasin. The encounter site is a kilometer away from Antique province. According to a local source, the rebels initially planned to make the place their temporary harboring area while they are preparing for the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP)’s 50th founding anniversary on December 26. Soldiers recovered two M16 Armalite rifles, four improvised explosive device (IEDs), seven backpacks with personal belongings, an NPA flag, a laptop, and subversive documents with high intelligence value.
(Encounter in Calubian, Leyte) On 13 December 2018 at around 6:00 o’clock in the morning, Philippine Army’s 802nd Infantry Brigade in Eastern Visayas encountered more or less 20 communist-terrorist groups (CTG) in the outskirts of Brgy Anislagan, Municipality of Calubian, Leyte, scoring firearms and subversive documents. In response to a report of an on-going plenum (meeting) of the CTG from concerned citizens in the area, Brigadier General Lope Dagoy, Commander of 802nd Brigade sent two squads from 93rd Infantry Battalion and 78th Infantry Battalion to disrupt another planned atrocities of the lawless elements. A 30-minute firefight ensued resulting to the recovery of one M16 rifle, two homemade shotguns, three magazines loaded with 5.56mm ammunitions, gadgets, subversive documents with high intelligence value and terrorists’ personal belongings. Pursuit operation for the fleeing terrorists is still ongoing.
(2 civilians and 4 government troops blasts with landmines in Northern Samar) On 18 December 2018 at around 11:35 in the morning, troops of 43rd Infantry Battalion (43IB) who delivered food intended for the soldiers of Charlie Company, 43IB at Brgy. McKinley, Municipality of Catarman, Northern Samar were hit by Communist New People’s Army Terrorists while riding in a light ace vehicle between Brgy. Hinatad and Brgy. McKinley of the said municipality. Anti-personnel landmine were detonated first, followed by volumes of fire of different caliber of more or less 15 Communist New People’s Army Terrorists (CNTs), forcing the government troops to retaliate. Skirmish lasted for about five (5) minutes, the incident resulted to four (4) wounded soldiers and two (2) innocent mother and child passing in the area. Victims were identified as Private Rolly B. Dizon, Private First Class Rorey O. Montopar, Private Joel Lacabe, and Corporal Jose Jerome L Ballano, all endured minor wounds. Furthermore, the identified mother and son were Sherly Robenacio, 35 years old and Christian Robenacio, 17 years old, residents in Brgy. Hinatad, Catarman, Northern Samar. Injured soldiers were brought to the nearest hospital for immediate medical treatment and already recovering while the wounded civilians were already at the Northern Samar Provincial Hospital and were assisted by the 43rd IB troops.
(Encounter in Las Navas, Northern Samar) On 22 December 2018 at around 6:20 in the morning, Community Support Program (CSP) Team of 20th Infantry Battalion, 8th Infantry Division, Philippine Army while conducting security patrol was fired upon by more or less 30 Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) at vicinity Brgy. Caputo-an, Municipality of Las Navas, Northern Samar. Firefight between the soldiers and the terrorists lasted for an hour and twenty minutes that resulted to the loss of Private First Class Alvin B. Avila and wounding of Private Ivan Anthony P. Ignao, and Private Michael S. Ocasla. Recovered after the encounter were the following: 60 meters drop wire; one bag of assorted empty shells of (M60 machine gun, M14 and M16 rifles, Cal. 45 and 9mm pistol); two cooking pots; detonating cords and one empty box with Armscor trademark. The fatality, Pfc Avila is 24 years old and is a resident of Aguadas St. District 4, Burauen, Leyte who had a great passion to serve his fellow Visayans in Northern Samar. The CSP Team was deployed at Brgy Caputo-an to assist the community to facilitate the needed basic services to be addressed by the local government unit.
(Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental-wide Service of Search Warrants) On 27 December 2018, a total of 82 search warrants for illegal firearms (RA10591) were served today in Guihulngan City. A simultaneous Service of Search Warrant was conducted in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental which is Considered by the PNP Regional Office as an Area of Immediate Concern (AIC). Police Regional Office Director CSupt. Debold Senas said out of 113 search warrant for Negros Oriental, 82 of which is in Guihulngan for violation of RA 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms Ammunition’s) under the PNP Synchronize Enhanced Managing Police Operation (SEMPO). Senas said a composite team of about 1,600 from the AFP and PNP were involved in this massive operation which started early morning of December 26. He added that a number of Armed groups were reported in the 1st District of Negros Oriental particularly in Guihulngan City as This is considered as an Election Watchlist Area. Election is fast approaching and this is our priority area. As of 10:43 a.m., 5 bodies were recovered who were allegedly to have engaged in a firefight with the government troops when the search warrant were being served. The fatalities are Jimmy Revilla, Reneboy Fat, Jun Cubol, Demetrio Fat and Jesus Isugan.
(SPARU member killed and 17 surrendered in Negros Oriental) On 27 December 2018, six members of SPARU (Special Partisan Unit) of NPA killed in the “Oplan Sauron” of the AFP and PNP in Negros Oriental. 17 NPA members were arrested, 1 voluntary surrendered, 3 at large and 25 assorted firearms and subversive documents recovered. Ongoing operations in the area, details to follow.
MINDANAO SIGNIFICANT INCIDENTS:
(Encounter in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte) On 03 December 2018, at about 8:30 in the morning, soldiers form Scout Platoon of 23rd Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army, led by 2nd Lieutenant Emmanuel Corpuz while conducting combat operations in the vicinity of Sitio Afga, Brgy. Upper Olave, Municipality of Buenavista, Agusan del Norte particularly at GC 51PYK EO5775 encountered more or less thirty (30) heavily armed Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) under GF4A, NCMRC led by an unknown rebel leader. Firefight lasted for thirty (30) minutes after which the enemy withdrew towards southwest direction of Sitio Afga. The incident left the government troops unharmed, while injuries and casualties are undetermined on the rebel side.
(NPA harassment in Sison, Surigao del Norte) On 03 December 2018 at about 3:55 in the afternoon, Army detachment located in Purok 5A, Brgy. Mabuhay, Municipality of Sison, Surigao del Norte was fired upon by undetermined number of fully armed Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) under GF16, NEMRC. A firefight ensued for about five minutes, after which the enemy withdrew, heading in an unknown direction. There were no casualties amongst the government troops. Injuries/casualties on the enemy side were undetermined.
(NPA encampment discovered in Claveria, Misamis Oriental) On 05 December 2018 at around 3:00 o’clock in the afternoon, a scout platoon from Headquarters Company, 58th Infantry Battalion, were conducting a combat operation. As they neared their target, they discovered an NPA terrorists’ hideout in the vicinity of Sitio Hanip (51P YK 3283 56146), Brgy. Minalwang, Municipality of Claveria, Misamis Oriental. Said hideout can accommodate approximately fifteen (15) NPA terrorists. Per observation, it was used about one month ago. Said rebel encampment is one of their staging points while traversing towards the hinter parts of Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental.
(Military troops recovered high-powered guns in Bukidnon) On 05 December 2018 at around 6:30 in the morning, troops from 2nd Special Forces Company, 1st Special Forces Battalion, composed of four regular army personnel led by Staff Sergeant Hegina together with two former rebels recovered two (2) M1918 US Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) with serial number 40428 and 553003 with two (2) magazines and ten (10) round ammunitions at the vicinity of Brgy. Licoan (51P YK 1048 0825, Municipality of Sumilao, Bukidnon.
(Encounter in Claveria, Misamis Oriental) On 06 December 2018, at approximately 2:25 in the afternoon, three platoons from 65th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army, led by 1st Lieutenant Tecson, 1st Lieutenant Legaspi, and 2nd Lieutenant Daug, encountered undetermined numbers of Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) believed to be members of GFC4B, NCMRC, in the vicinity of Sitio Kalhaan (GC 51P YK 40901 48361) Brgy. Minalwang, Municipality of Claveria, Misamis Oriental, that resulted in one wounded in action (WIA) on the government side. The wounded soldier was identified as Private First-Class Joven A. Canicola. Casualties on the enemy side were undetermined.
(NPA terrorist dead in an encounter at Agusan del Sur) On 08 December 2018 at around 3:00 o’clock in the morning, one Communist NPA Terrorist (CNT) died at the scene after an encounter between NPA rebel groups and soldiers of the 26th Infantry Battalion, led by 1st Lieutenant Rolphy Alunday in Km 27, Brgy. Mahayahay, Municipality of San Luis, Agusan del Sur. According to a local source, soldiers conducting operations in the aforementioned barangay encountered roughly 30 heavily armed NPA terrorists under GF88, NCMRC led by Gerondio Domino (alias Trunks). After 30 minutes of gunfire on both sides, the Communist NPA Terrorists immediately fled in a north-east direction. One lifeless body of NPA rebels were recovered. The soldiers also recovered two M16 rifles: Colt bearing Serial: 067374 and Elisco bearing Serial Number: RP 158815, ammos for AK47 rifle, Cal .22 revolver, one hand grenade, 35 pieces blasting caps, three cellphones, 2 handheld radios, medical paraphernalia, assorted foods, personal belongings, and subversive documents with high intelligence value. Dead NPA rebel was identified as alias Kilyan, 25 years old, team leader and a political guide of Squad 2, Sandatahang Yunit Pampropaganda (SYP) Platun. The cadaver is now lying in state at Chato Funeral Homes, Brgy. San Rafael Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur and subject for paraffin test, and autopsy/post mortem examination. No reported casualty on the government side.
(NPA assassination attack in Lianga, Surigao del Sur) On 12 December 2018, at about 1:40 in the afternoon, Jumar Sabas Bucales, 46 years old, married, Tribal leader and a resident of Purok-3, Kansilad, Brgy Ganayon, Municipality of Lianga, Surigao del Sur reported personally to Lianga Municipal Police Station (MPS), that he was shot by unidentified suspect/s with the use of firearm of unknown caliber in the vicinity of Purok-1, Brgy. San Isidro, Lianga, Surigao del Sur. Initial investigation revealed that prior to the incident victim was attending IP’s meeting at Barangay Hall of Brgy. San Isidro, Lianga, Surigao del Sur together with his companions identified as Ronald Bucales, of legal age, married, Melvin Bucales, 18 years old, single and Sanny Boy Bucales, 47 years old, married, all residents of P-3, Kansilad, Brgy. Ganayon, Lianga, Surigao del Sur. Thereafter, the victim aboard on two (2) motorcycles together with his companions on their way home. Upon reaching at the place of incident, suddenly they were fired upon by unidentified gunmen believed to be CNTs with the use of firearm of unknown caliber. Fortunately, victim managed to evade from further shooting using his driven motorcycle while his companions were able to escape from the scene and hide safely. Victim Jumar Bucales sustained gunshot wound on lower portion of his left arm and was immediately brought by PNP personnel of Lianga MPS to Lianga District Hospital for treatment and later referred to Patin-ay Provincial Hospital, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur by the attending physician for further treatment accompanied by personnel of 3rd Special Forces Battalion (3SFBN). Police personnel of Lianga MPS coordinated to the military counterparts for possible identification of suspects.
(CPP Anniversary Venue Overran by Scout Rangers in Bukidnon-Agusan Sur Boundary) On 12 and 13 December 2018, two massive hideouts being prepared as venues for the Communist Party of the Philippines’ 50th anniversary celebration in north central Mindanao, were seized by operating elements of Army Scout Rangers after a series of armed encounters against CPP-NPA terrorists. These lairs are located in uninhabited mountainous area that bounds Bukidnon and Agusan Del Sur. On 12 December 2018, Army Scout Rangers encountered, around 40 fully-armed CPP-NPA terrorists working on a 20 x 300 meters hideout which can accommodate around 120 persons for a gathering or ceremonial area. Its makeshift facilities strongly indicate that it is being prepared as a venue for a huge gathering of persons. In particular; it has one multi-purpose hall, two kitchens and one water reservoir. During the search in the seized CPP-NPA hideout, the rangers took hold of one cellular phone, one generator set, electrical wires, and several personal belongings. On 13 December 2018 morning, the rangers encountered the same NPA terrorists, a few kilometers from the first gunfight. A bigger NPA hideout with an approximate dimension of 40 x 200 meters was discovered and seized by the rangers. It is configured as billeting area for approximately 100 persons with huts and improvised beds. In addition, the operating troops also netted one (1) rifle grenade, ten (10) rounds cal.22 mm ammunition, two (2) rounds cal5.56 mm ammunition, 150 rounds machinegun ammo, electrical wires, explosive detonating cords, explosive blasting caps, one explosive switch, medical kits, backpacks with personal belongings, and CPP- NPA-NDF documents. The aforesaid hideouts were pinpointed by the rangers after 6 days of hiking and based on the revelations of recently surrendered NPA terrorists. These former rebels further revealed that food and other non-food items were brought to these areas, probably in preparation for the CPP anniversary.
(NPA assassination attack in Santiago, Agusan del Norte) On December 13, 2018 at about 8:30 in the evening, a shooting incident transpired in Purok-4, Brgy. Jagupit, Municipality of Santiago, Agusan del Norte that eventually resulted in the death of SPO3 Reil Mijares Morgado, 46 years old, male, married, an active member of PNP, presently assigned to Santiago Municipal Police Station, Agusan del Norte and a resident of the aforesaid place, perpetrated by armed men believed to be members of Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) aboard two motorcycles (habal-habal). Investigation revealed that prior to the incident, the victim noticed that there were suspicious persons roaming around his residence. Accordingly, he went outside carrying his issued firearm to verify but upon reaching the garage area, he was fired upon by the suspects. Out rightly, SPO3 Morgado sustained multiple gunshot wounds and fell to the ground, but he was still able to fire back using his issued Caliber .9mm pistol until he faded away. The CNT took away his issued sidearm and fled towards the direction of Tubay, Agusan del Norte using two motorcycles (habal-habal). Personnel of Agusan del Norte Provincial Crime Laboratory Office arrived and processed the crime scene. They recovered six pieces fired cartridge cases of Caliber 5.56mm. Personnel of Santiago Municipal Police Station, Provincial Mobile Force Company, and operatives of Regional Intelligence Division13 are conducting joint pursuit operation for the arrest of the suspects.
At about 10:30 in the evening of the same date, personnel of Santiago MPS, Provicail Mobile Force Compnay troopers, and the combined operatives of Regional Intelligecne Division 13 and Agusan del Norte Provinial Intelligence Branch, through a confidential informant, they were able to arrest the drivers of the habal-habal motorcycles used during the murder of SPO3 Morgado, namely:
- Renato F. Caerlang, 34 years old;
- Ryan James M. Caerlang, 18 years old; and
- Riedel Cano Cabello, 26 years old, all are residents of Purok 8, Brgy. Poblacion 1, Santiago, Agusan del Norte.
The motorcycles used in the commission of the crime were also confiscated with the following descriptions:
1) Red RUSI 150 motorcycle with side carrier; and
2) Black RUSI 150 motorcycle with side carrier.
Arrested persons and confiscated motorcycles are now in the custody of Santiago Municipal Police Station, Agusan del Norte for proper disposition.
(Encounter in Alegria, Surigao del Norte) On 16 December 2018, at around 5:30 in the morning, a clash between Communist NPA Terrorists under GF16, NEMRC and a squad of the Budlingin Patrol Base, led by Staff Sergeant Songkit, left undetermined rebels wounded. The fighting started in the vicinity of (51PYL85334784) Brgy. Budlingin, Municipality of Alegria, Surigao del Norte, when troops patrolling the area were fired upon by approximately 15 NPA terrorists. According to a source, the encounter occurred when soldiers responded to a report from a civilian regarding the NPA presence in their village. The engaged troops scoured and cleared the rebel position while one squad of the 29th Infantry Battalion, conducted pursuit operations against the fleeing rebels.
(NPA assassination attack in Esperanza, Agusan del Sur) On 18 December 12018 at exactly 1:00 a.m., Mike Napunungan Ligcuban, 24 years old, single and a resident of Purok-1, Brgy. Maliwanag, Municipality of Esperanza, Agusan del Sur was shot to death by undetermined number of Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) believed to be members of GF88, NCMRC at Purok-2, Brgy. Maliwanag, Municipality of Esperanza, Agusan del Sur. Investigation revealed that the Victim was picked up by the said armed men and was found dead with gunshot wounds in the different parts of his body on the aforesaid place. The victim is a former rebel and allegedly became an asset of Charlie Company, 23rd Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army. Victim’s Cadaver is now lying in state at Hope Funeral Homes for Post Mortem Examination.
(An NPA rebel raid on the Army/Cafgu Patrol Base in Sibagat, Agusan del Sur) On 19 December 2018, at around 3:00 o’clock in the morning, approximately eighty (80) heavily armed Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) raided and disarmed Army and Cafgu personnel assigned to the New Tubigon Patrol Base situated in Purok 1, Brgy. New Tubigon, Municipality of Sibagat, Agusan del Sur. No firefight erupted. According to a local source, the rebels surrounded the patrol base of 8th Special Forces Company and set up a security perimeter to block government forces from responding. As soon as the rebels gained entry, they immediately disarmed both the Army and Cafgus. The rebels then confiscated and took possession of sixteen (16) 5.56mm M16 rifles, three (3) 7.62mm M14 rifles, two (2) 5.56 R4 rifles, one (1) 7.62mm M60 machinegun, one (1) M203 Grenade Launcher, and one (1) Harris Handheld radio along with other items from the army and Cafgus. Two (2) army cadres, Private First Class Darlino A. Cariño and Corporal Eric B. Manangan were taken hostage. Twelve (12) other Cafgus identified as CAA Jimuel B Acebedo, CAA Jurian B Gaviola, CAA Abel M Iligan, CAA Rolando B Quiao, CAA Eddie J Tindoy, CAA Marson C Iligan, CAA James H Iligan, CAA Hermito M Iligan, CAA Gabriel C Iligan, CAA Sanny G. Malobay, CAA Bienvinido A Lamion, and CAA Romeo E Quimco, were also taken hostage. This Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) group is believed to be composed of elements from the Sub Regional Sentro De Gravidad (SRSDG), Southland, under alias Momoy and SRSDG, and Westland, under Toto Anob (alias Dongkoy) of the NPA’s North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC). Massive pursuit operations are underway to capture the fleeing rebels.
(NPA kidnapping activity in Agusan del Sur) On 19 December 2018 at around 7:30 in the evening, CAA Bernabe B. Salahay, 51 years old and currently assigned at 1st Platoon, 1st Agusan del Sur CAA Company, Kolambugan Patrol Base situated in Brgy Kolambugan, Municipality of Sibagat, Agusan del Sur, was kidnapped by more or less 5 NPA Terrorists believed to be elements of GF21, NEMRC led by Lonie Pison Hinampos (alias Marco). The victim was at his farm harvesting Abaca at the time of his abduction. The suspects forcibly took Hinampos and brought him to an unknown place.
(Army Team securing Civilians fired upon by NPA Terrorists in Bukidnon) On 20 December 2018 at around 2:30 a.m., an Army Team tasked to protect the civilians attending the “Magbuliga Kuy” Pamaskong Handog” program at Sitio Bundaan, Brgy. Dumalaguing in Impasug-ong, Bukidnon was fired upon by 5 Communist NPA terrorists. “Magbuliga Kuy” program is a monthly activity of the LGU of Impasug-ong to deliver basic services jibed with Pamaskong Handog. The event at Sitio Bundaan, Brgy. Dumalaguing, Impasug-ong was held with prior coordination with the Army to provide security in the area. While the army team was on its way to Sitio Bundaan, Brgy. Dumalagan, Impasug-ong, around 5 CPP-NPA terrorists opened fire to the team at the vicinity of Brgy. Kalabugao, Municipality of Impasug-ong. Three personnel (3) were slightly wounded and were immediately brought to 4th Infantry Division station hospital. 8th Infantry Battalion troopers are now on manhunt operations following the information provided by the residents of nearby Community.
(4 NPA members surrendered to the military in Sultan Kudarat) On 23 December 2018, Colonel Robert Dauz, Brigade Commander 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade welcomed the four (4) rebels who just surrendered to the unit through 33rd Infantry Battalion at Headquarters, 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade, Camp Leono, Brgy. Kalagandagan, Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat. The rebels were presented by Lieutenant Colonel Harold Cabunoc, Commanding Officer of 33rd Infantry Battalion along with the five (5) assorted firearms: one (1) M1 Garand , one (1) KG9 Submachine Gun, one (1) 9mm pistol, one (1) cal .38 pistol and one (1) 22mm pistol including three (3) hand grenades.
(36IB discovers supply cache, captures NPA materials in Surigao del Sur) On 23 December 2018 at around 3 o’clock in the afternoon, troops of 36th Infantry Battalion (36IB) discovered supply cache containing CPP-NPA Terrorist (CNT) materials at Sitio Kiskis, Brgy Siagao, Municipality of San Miguel, Surigao del Sur. Elements of Bravo Company of 36IB discovered the supply cache and captured the following materials used by CNTs: 4 pieces IED Switch; 1 pc Digital Tester; 1 roll Scotch Tape; 1 pc Talk N Text Simpack; 10 pcs Icom Commercial Radio; 2 pcs Extra Battery Pack for Commercial Radio; 2 pcs CP Charger; 2 pcs Nokia CP Battery; 10 pcs HH Icom Antenna; 40 pcs Assorted Transistors; 1 pc Comb; 56 rounds of 76.2 ball ammo of M14; 2 pcs Empty Magazines of M14 (Unserviceable); 3 pcs Pouch (Small Size); 11 pcs Ballpens; 1 pc Topographic Map; 9 pcs Notebooks / Primer / Leaflets; 1 pc Bandolier; 4 pairs Combat Boots; 1 round 60mm mortar (Unserviceable); and 1 pc Scissor. The capture of said CNT supplies by the elements of Bravo Company of 36IB is in response from a tip coming from concern resident of same Brgy that a supply cache owned by the CPP-NPA Terrorist were kept hidden in the said area.
(Encounter in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte) On December 23, 2018 at around 4:15 in the afternoon, composite team of 1304th Regional Mobile Force Company (RMFC) and Butuan City Mobile Force Company (CMFC) led by Police Inspector Peter John P. Evangelista (RMFB13) while conducting combat operation chanced upon undetermined number of heavily armed men believed to be members of GF4A, NCMRC of unknown leader at Brgy Nongnong (GC 7295 7947), Butuan City. The firefight lasted for about 10 minutes, after which the enemy withdrew towards the southeast. There were no casualties on the government side; casualties are undetermined on the enemy side.
(Discovery of NPA terrorists’ encampment in Esperanza, Agusan del Sur) On December 23, 2018 at about 11:30 in the morning, a platoon of soldiers from Charlie Company, 23rd Infantry Battalion, led by 2nd Lieutenant Oh, while conducting combat operation in the hinter areas of Las Nieves (VGL 56-66; HGL 57-65), Agusan del Norte and Esperanza, Agusan del Sur, discovered a Communist NPA Terrorists encampment at the vicinity Sitio Simontanan (GC 51P YK 601 602), Brgy. Calabuan, Municipality of Esperanza, Agusan del Sur. The said encampment has an estimated area of 400 square meters which can accommodate eighty (80) persons and was vacated by the CNTs for about three (3) days ago. Recovered the following: Fifty-six (56) rattan makeshift bunkers with rattan beds; one (1) live rifle grenade; five (5) sacks of rice; five (5) dextrose and assorted medical supplies; two (2) boxes – Air gun ammunition; three (3) rounds – 5.56mm M16 ball; thirty-eight (38) rounds – 7.62mm M14 ball; two (2) pcs – Baofeng battery; one (1) pc Baofeng radio charger; one (1) pc – bolt assembly of 5.56mm M16; one (1) pc – charging handle of 5.56mm M16.
(Encounter in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur) On 25 December 2018, following the information from concerned citizens regarding the presence of NPA terrorists at the hinterlands of Brgy. Sibulan, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, troops from 39th Infantry Battalion went to the area to conduct security operation to protect the communities from terrorists’ atrocities and encountered the terrorist at around 09:40 in the morning. The troops were fired upon by the NPA terrorists who are in an ambush position while most of their group were busy establishing shanties and celebration stages for their supposed 50th Anniversary. The ensuing firefight forced the NPA terrorists to scamper away leaving their encampment that approximately could accommodate more or less 30 NPA Terrorists and troops discovered left behind combat equipment and valuable documents. The NPA Terrorists are evading as the military troops continue to pursue them, but information from communities is continuously coming in that led to their being tracked down.
(19 CNT members on their 50th Anniversary surrendered in Agusan del Sur) On 25 December 2018 at around 10:00 o’clock in the morning, nineteen (19) members of NPA’s with their assault rifles voluntarily surrendered to the Intelligence Operatives of Army’s 75th Infantry Battalion (75IB) at Sitio Ilang-Ilang, Barangay San Mariano, Municipality of Loreto, Agusan del Sur. They brought along with them one M203 rifle, six M16 rifles, one M653 rifle, one M14 rifle, four pistols, and two grenades. They also brought with them, three radios and more than a thousand ammunition of M16 and M14. The surrenderors were identified as follows:

The surrenderors are now undergoing custodial debriefing and processing. On a separate instance three NPA surrendered in Bukidnon on December 23, 2018 bringing along with them their firearms while another NPA also surrendered in Agusan Norte on December 24, 2018.
(NPA surrendered in Mawab, Compostela Valley Province) On 26 December 2018 at around 1:00 o’clock in the afternoon, another member of the Communist NPA Terrorist (CNTs) surrendered to 71st Infantry (Kaibigan) Battalion at Brgy. Nueva Visayas, Municipality of Mawab, Compostela Valley Province. The surrendered NPA member alias Wendell/Dodong was a member of Squad 1, Andoy, SRGU, Sub-Regional Committee 2 (SRC 2), Southern Mindanao Regional Command (SMRC). He brought with him, one KG-9mm pistol and one magazine with ten (10) live ammunitions and voluntary surrendered it to 71st Infantry Battalion. Wendell revealed that last October 2018, he was recruited by alias Joshua and alias Green Lee at Sitio Singanan, Purok 10, Brgy. Libay- Libay, Municipality of Maco, Compostela Valley Province. He underwent to “Pambansang Demokratikong Paaralan” (PADEPA) for five days at Sitio Mabasal, Brgy. Manipongol, Municipality of Mabini, Compostela Valley Province. He added that his instructors’ names were Almira Pares (alias Alex), alias Axel, alias Amihan, alias Neck, alias Raphy, and alias Bea. According to him, he was one of those who disarmed the portal guards in the tunnel owned by Adonis Quijano at Sitio Biasong, Brgy. Napnapan, Municipality of Pantukan, Compostela Valley Province that resulted to their recovery of three Cal 38 revolvers and two Cal 45 pistols. He further revealed that he surrendered because he felt the pressure of the ongoing combat operation of the Government troops in the hinterlands of Maco, Mabini and Pantukan.
(Encounter in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur) On 28 December 2018, as government pursuit operation against CPP-NPA Terrorists (CNTs) progresses in the hinterlands of Barangay Sibulan, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, troops from 39th Infantry Battalion (39IB) again had an armed encounter at around 08:15 in the morning. The troops had chance upon group of CNTs were apparently setting-up an ambush for pursuing government forces where in the firefight ensued. The terrorists again scampered away leaving behind food stuffs and other propaganda materials for their botched anniversary celebration. Pursuit operation conducted again where in government troops found along the CNTs tracks a Garrand Rifle with serial number 2846970. It can be recalled that the same contending forces had a skirmish last Christmas Day.
(NPA terrorists surrender with firearms to army in Sarangani) On 28 December 2018 at around 8:30 in the morning, two CPP-NPA Terrorists (CNTs) of the Weakened Guerilla Front 71 (WGF71), Far South Mindanao Region (FSMRC) voluntarily surrendered with firearms to the government troops under 73rd Infantry Battalion at Barangay Poblacion, Malapatan, Sarangani Province. CNT Darwin Tanod (alias Darwin), 26 years old, a resident of Barangay Datal Bukay, Glan was a member of Platoon South of said Front, bringing along with him his issued Garrand Rifle with serial number D280743. Another CNT Felipe Magwan (alias Jesse), 36 years old, a resident of Barangay Alegria, Alabel was a member of Platoon North of same Front, turned-in one Caliber .45 Pistol with serial number 955623. Both former rebels averred that they were greatly depressed and bothered with fear and anxiety brought about by continuous focused military operations of government troops in the area, longing-ness to be with their families for they have no time to pay visit and were deeply disappointed with the unfulfilled promises of their recruiters.
(NPA terrorists arrested in Bukidnon) On 29 December 201, troops from 8th Infantry Battalion captured an alleged member of NPA terrorists identified as Michael Abalang Tinampay, 27 years old. Tinampay, a resident of Sitio Lakbangan, Barangay Minalwang, Claveria, Misamis Oriental, was arrested in Sitio Kiudto, Barangay Hagpa, Municipality of Impasug-ong, Bukidnon. Matampay is a member of Squad 2, Platoon Ryan, Guerilla Front 4B, SR-C1, NCMRC. He yielded several types of ammunition and explosives, cellular phones and an unlicensed motorcycle.
(Agusan del Norte’s top NPA most wanted personality arrested in Carmen) On 30 December 2018 at around 4:30 dawn in the morning, Agusan del Norte’s most wanted Top NPA personality who is facing multiple criminal charges was caught in his hide out at Purok Spring, Brgy. Tagcatong, Municipality of Carmen, Agusan del Norte. The conduct of operation manhunt is a result of the coordination between the PNP namely CIDG13, Agusan del Norte Provincial Intelligence Branch (AND-PIB), Carmen Municipal Police Station, Agusan del Norte Provincial Mobile Force Company (AND-PMFC) and 23rd Infantry Battalion, 42nd MICO both OPCON 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade, Philippine Army and the cooperation of the community who tipped his whereabouts that resulted to the apprehension of a certain Joaquin Madrianon (alias Alto/Junjun), an Intel Officer and Commander, SPARU unit of SRC Wanas, NCMRC, listed as the Top 1 most wanted Communist NPA Terrorist (CNT) in Agusan del Norte while Top 2 overall in the most wanted list criminals in the province. The suspect’s capture was based on the warrant of arrest with the several cases. Said suspect was subjected as responsible for Lumad Killings in Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur areas, specifically the death of Mayor Otaza, Ricardo Sulhayan (alias Datu Ka Doy Saliganan) of Nasipit, Datu Ernesto Mandahinog Burdios and Jane M Burdios, Junior Ligsanan, Jr. Castilla, and Lauro Hunasan. He was also, involved during the attack of Carmen Police Station, Agusan del Norte on March 16, 2003.
