Six Jail Guards Face Raps Over Pangasinan Jailbreak

Six guards of the Pangasinan Provincial Jail are facing administrative charges for the escape of two inmates.

The jail guards charged for gross neglect of duty were identified as Julio Tamondong, Joy Mondero, Danilo Colis, Wynsel Sison, Huebner Velasco, and Jimmy Nabung.

The six are facing raps for the escape of jailbirds Ronnie Zarate and Rogelio Garcia who bolted out of prison at around 6 a.m. on June 1.

According to reports, the two escaped and boarded a van but the driver became suspicious and drove them toward the San Carlos City police office.

The fugitives managed to flee but Garcia was recaptured.

Zarate is facing three charges of carjacking and a murder case while Garcia is facing charges for illegal sale of firearms.

The prison guards are still in the provincial jail but according to Provincial Legal Officer Geraldine Baniqued, “their functions are somehow restricted.”

Meanwhile, retired Col. Rolando Diaz, the jail warden, will not be slapped with administrative charges as “no substantial circumstance” was found to charge him, Baniqued said.
