A soldier was killed while four others were injured in a clash between Army troops and the Abu Sayaff Group in Al-Barka, Basilan Wednesday dawn, the military said.

The incident came on the heels of another roadside bombing incident that claimed the lives of seven Philippine Army soldiers yesterday in Maguindanao.

According to a rappler.com report, Western Mindanao Command spokesman Col Rodrigo Gregorio said the troops encountered and engaged 50 ASG members in a gun battle in the remote Basilan town.

Meanwhile, around 100 residents were evacuated due to the incident.
