Teenagers’ Trip Leads to Death of a Girl

A 13-year-old girl was allegedly killed by two teenagers past Saturday midnight in Barangay Talayan, Quezon City during a birthday party brawl.

The victim was identified as Jeslie dela Cruz, while the two teen suspects were Jovit Guerrero and Victorino Diaz, both 19 years old.

Guerrero and his friends were said to have attacked dela Cruz’s group during the party where they were invited by a common friend. Explaining the reason for the attack, “Trip lang namin. (It was a trip),” he was quoted saying in Philstar.com report. He pointed to his 19-year-old friend Victorino Diaz as the one who started the fight and beaten up dela Cruz.

After realizing that Guerrero’s group was, according to police authorities, “staring at them with open hostility,” dela Cruz and her friends, including her boyfriend Paulo Tapel, chose to leave the party. But Guerrero’s group followed them and assaulted the boys in dela Cruz’s group.

Dela Cruz tried to stop the fight but was also beaten up, until she fell and knocked her head on a concrete. She was taken to the Orthopedic Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival at past 1 a.m.

Police authorities from Quezon City Police District Station 1 arrested Guerrero and a 17-year-old boy. But the latter was handed over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development. The investigators are still trying to locate the other eight members of Guerrero’s group.
