Three Dead in Calamba City Ambush

Three people were killed in an ambush in Calamba City, Laguna on Wednesday evening, the provincial police reported.

According to Senior Superintendent Florendo Saligao, Laguna Provincial Police director, the victims were identified as businessman Rolly Fajardo; his driver, Thomas Andaya, both of Barangay Bunggo, Calamba City; and Marciliano Batan Jr., Fajardo’s bodyguard and a resident of Alaminos City, Pangasinan.

Police report said the three were traversing the highway in Barangay Bagong Kalsada on their way back from Camp Eldridge in Los Banos, Laguna at around 7:30 p.m. when a white car blocked Fajardo’s Audi Sedan (AAZ 1435) in front of a 7-Eleven convenience store.

Armed men aboard the white car then opened fire at the victims.

“The incident happened in front of the 7-11 convenience store where armed men suddenly appeared and fired automatic rifles,” Saligao said.

Both Fajardo and Andaya sustained gunshot wounds in their bodies, while Batan, also wounded, managed to fire back at the gunmen who retreated and fled toward Calamba proper.

Saligao said the victims were immediately rushed to the Calamba Medical Center but were declared dead on arrival.

A dragnet operation is underway to track down the suspects.
