The Philippine Star reports that the relaunch of the Philippine National Police’s anti-illegal drugs Oplan Tokhang on the fifth week of 2018 recorded 821 drug suspects surrendering to the authorities. A majority of those who surrendered were from Northern Mindanao at 424 and from the Zamboanga peninsula at 318. No fatalities relating to Tokhang activities—totaling 2,127 in the first four days in 17 regions across the country—have been recorded.
PNP spokesman Chief Supt. John Bulalacao said in a press conference that these figures show that the people are cooperating with the government in its campaign to solve the country’s drug problem: “The total number of surrenderers reached as high as 821 so this is almost 50 percent of the total number Tokhang activities, which manifest the people are now cooperative or responsive to the efforts of the PNP.”
