Trend Micro and INTERPOL Collaborate in Global Fight against Cybercrime

Trend Micro Inc. has announced last June 24, 2013 its collaboration with INTERPOL, the world’s largest international police organization with 190 member countries, to support global law enforcement programs against cybercrime.

Today’s cyber threats are increasingly becoming more targeted and sophisticated with criminal networks operating across the world, coordinating complex attacks against targets in a matter of minutes.

Due to the complexity of the present cyber-threat landscape, cybercrime investigations are profoundly different in nature to traditional crime. Such investigations require high-level technical expertise and large-scale cross-jurisdictional investigations. It is essential that law enforcement prioritize resources, build cross-jurisdictional and cross-sectorial collaboration in addition to developing the technical expertise, tools and infrastructure required to effectively combat threats and eventually enhance digital security.

In response, INTERPOL would be establishing the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) in Singapore in 2014, which will be the center of excellence for facilitating international cooperation against cybercrime. The IGCI will seek to implement an alliance with multi-stakeholders, including Internet security specialists from the private sector, to leverage their respective expertise and resources for the benefit of global law enforcement agencies fighting cybercrime.

Trend Micro, will be supporting INTERPOL with its expertise in mitigating cyber threats. Last June 21, Eva Chen, CEO of Trend Micro met with Ronald K. Noble, Secretary General of INTERPOL in Lyon, France and discussed the parameters of this important endeavor.

Trend Micro will deliver training programs to INTERPOL, government and police organizations in various participating countries, and major companies that manage basic infrastructure, with corresponding expertise and best practices to address emerging digital crime at the national and international level. Training will encompass e-learning modules, classroom-based training sessions, workshops and/or professional certifications, based on overall goals and learning objectives.

The alliance with INTERPOL will enable Trend Micro to fulfill its corporate vision of establishing “A World Safe for Exchanging Digital Information.”
