Two Dead as Fires Raze Manila, Valenzuela City

Two people were killed in separate fire incidents that hit Manila and Valenzuela City on Monay and Tuesday.

The fatalities were identified as Marieta Beringuel, a 49-year-old resident of Loreto Street in Sampaloc, Manila and Freddie Vidal, a 30-year-old machine operator from Valenzuela City.

Beringuel was found dead after she was trapped in a room where she slept when the fire broke out in a residential area in Sampaloc at around 5:07 p.m. on Monday. The fire razed 20 houses and left 40 families homeless. It also damaged P600,000 worth of properties.

Vidal, an employee of Valenzuela Fabric Finishing Center, died in a fire that hit Canumay West in Valenzuela City Tuesday night. According to reports, Vidal was cleaning an oil machine when it suddenly caught fire. He tried to escape but was trapped inside the warehouse.

The blaze started around 8 p.m. and reached second alarm. It was put out an hour later.
