On its latest update released early morning Wednesday, August 1, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) confirmed that12 people were killed, five were injured, and one remains missing as a result of Typhoon Gener, with international codename Saola.  Rescued during the storm were 129 people.

Due to heavy and continuous rains brought about by the typhoon, a total of 54 incidents were reported to have occurred in various regions in the country.

A total of 63,670 families (or a total of 303,941 persons) were affected, of which 31,135 families (or 154, 211 persons) were displaced and being served inside and outside evacuation centers.

There were 1,379 damaged houses in all, of which 379 were totally damaged.

As of 7 p.m. yesterday, the following areas remain one to three feet flooded: Valenzuela City and Malabon City (National Capital Region or NCR); Dagupan City (Pangasinan); Claveria and Sta. Teresita (Cagayan); Hagonoy, Calumpit, Paombong, Meycauayan, San Miguel (Bulacan); Castillejos (Zambales); Apalit, Bacolor, Candaba, Guaga, Lubao, San Simon, Macabebe, Masantol, Minalin, San Luis, Sasmuan (Pampanga); Pikit as of 3 p.m. yesterday (North Cotabato).

Said to have been closed were 28 roads and two bridges in Cagayan, Ilocos, Central Luzon, Western Visayas, Northern Mindanao, CAR, and NCR.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development has prepared standby funds amounting to P4.77 million and relief supplies worth P39.04 million.

Cost of damages was estimated at P2 million, with Cagayan province covering more than half of the total cost of damages.

Several barangays and municipalities are still without electricity, such as Tuba, Tublay, and Kibungan in Benguet province; five barangays in Baguio City; and Apalit in Pampanga.

Some schools in Bulacan, Valenzuela, Quezon City, and Manila have suspended their classes today from pre-school to elementary, or at all levels.

Typhoon Gener is estimated to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility Thursday evening.
