Last 3 February, President Rodrigo Duterte announced the end of the unilateral ceasefire between the government and the New People’s Army.
Discontinuing the ceasefire, which puts peace negotiations in peril, was a result of preemptive attacks by Communist forces against military and industrial installations. This is part of a series of articles charting these incidents leading up to and surrounding the resumption of hostilities.
Bukidnon, Philippines – On February 1, 2017 at around 11:00 P.M., approximately 12 heavily armed men burned down three vehicles and heavy pieces of equipment.
The vehicles were three bulldozers of Oro Contractor owned by one Robert Kionisala and a Backhoe of Sibal Contractor owned by Sammy Bugas. The said contractors were working on the expansion of the area of the pineapple company, DOLE Philippines Inc. at the farm lot owned by a Mr. Apa-ap located in Purok-1, Barangay Mendis, Municipality of Pangantucan, BUkidnon.
The armed malefactors who burned down the vehicles are believed to be members of the New People’s Army specifically from the Guerilla front Committee 68 (GFC-68), NCMRC. The estimated cost of damage is Php4.5 million.
